BP is building commercially viable low-carbon energy businesses, including several biofuels ventures. Since 2006 BP has committed more than $2 billion to build existing operations and research and development capability often working in partnership with other businesses and academic bodies to develop the technologies, feedstocks and processes required to produce advanced biofuels. BP aims to research, develop and produce sustainable biofuels clean, reliable alternatives to fossil fuels for transport that deliver real reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and help to improve security of energy supply. The science and technology needed to make BP's vision a reality is already in place. The company is focused on three key strategic objectives:

1. Produce biofuels from the best feedstocks available today, while pushing for higher standards that bring cleaner, sustainably produced biofuels onto the market in greater quantities.

2. Invest in new feedstocks, including cellulosic biofuels made from for purpose energy grasses, that have minimal impact on food supplies

3. Develop technologies such as Biobutanol and Sugar-to-Diesel to create advanced biofuels with a higher energy content and even greater environmental benefits.
