LEITAT is a Technology Centre which aims to provide services to companies in the industrial sector, adding technological value both the products and processes. Focused on the tasks of Research, Development and Innovation (R & D), LEITAT services have a clear direction and vocation to adapt and evolve the face of constant market changes. The Environmental and Bio Technologies Division aside from the institutional R&D activities also provides services to third parties of both of RTD and of consultancy nature. LEITAT develops industrial, national and European projects (as a partner or coordinator) for the progress of innovation and technological development in Catalonian region, and as a consequence, in Spain and Europe. Related to the research on biofuel production and biomass, LEITAT is equipped with an advance physic-chemical and microbiological laboratory, which allows the complete characterisation of biomass, agro-industry wastes, biofuels and biogas/syngas. LEITAT develops research on biomass pre-processing (mechanical, physic-chemical and microbiological conditioning) for biogas and/or ethanol production. Valorisation of solid subproducts as fertilizers is also performed. Related to thermal technologies, LEITAT has interest in the research on pyrolysis and liquid fuel production and improvement of their characteristics (water content, viscosity, stability, hydrogenation) for the sustainable and efficient valorisation. Regarding our expertise about Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), LEITAT makes environmental assessment of a particular product or process, environmental comparison of different products or processes, detection of the hot spots in their whole life cycle, development of specific methodologies for industrial sectors (tailored assessments).
