Part of the global oil company, involved in large-scale production of biofuels through Raízen, a joint venture to produce biofuels from sugar cane in Brazil. With annual production capacity of over 2 billion litres – expected to double by 2015 – Raízen is one of the world’s largest biofuels producers. Biofuels R&D&D activities include a pilot plant at Shell's Technology Center in Houston, USA, to produce drop-in biofuels. The plant uses a process that converts plant sugars and inedible biomass into a range of products, including gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Shell also has reseach faciltiies in the Netherlands, UK, and India.
