Citizens Consultations on Bioenergy

The ETIP-B2022-2025 project is organizing a series of citizens consultations on the social impacts of bioenergy across four European countries (Bulgaria, Italy, Sweden and Austria).

Coordinated by CSD and organised by each project partner in its respective home country, this initiative aims at increasing the societal relevance and acceptance of bioenergy technologies by including citizens in the process of defining policy and innovation agendas. Local consultations will lead to expanding the knowledge base of citizens about the role of bioenergy in the energy transition and enable them, as experts on their daily lives, to voice and incorporate their values, hopes, and concerns into policy and research priorities.

The overall aim of the consultation is to develop citizens’ visions of a desirable future for the  role of renewable fuels and bioenergy in 2050. The citizens’s values, hopes, and concerns that are incorporated in these visions are analyzed by a multidisciplinary team of experts that will use them to formulate recommendations for the ongoing update of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of ETIP-Bioenergy. These recommendations will then be presented to citizens for validation and prioritization to ensure the legitimacy and loyalty to the initial visions.

Citizens consultations are conceived as a participatory co-design process for public engagement in bioenergy technologies. It is an adaptation of thee Citizen Visions on Science, Technology and Innovation (CIVISTI) method.
